Bonecrusher hates that it’s taken this long to get a review done for him. He also hates that he probably won’t get a new toy for the Revenge of the Fallen toyline.

In vehicle mode, the first thing that jumps out about Bonecrusher is that they made him tiny. For such a big guy, he got stuck with a puny toy. Brawl got an upgrade, but no such luck for the guy that went toe to toe with Prime himself. He didn’t make out too poorly, though - there’s a ton of molded details, and the little tampographed Bonecrusher logo on the side is a nice touch. His vehicle mode is a little light on paint otherwise, though - just painted windows and a couple of painted lights (signal lights? on a minesweeper?) and spare tyres. He’s still fun, though - he’s got a good roll, and his big claw is articulated for plenty of car flipping action (admittedly, he’d be flipping Legends sized cars, but still). He’s concealed most of his obvious robot parts, excepting the toes sitting over his rear wheels.

Transformation from MCPV to Robot

Rotate the front fenders so that the front wheels face forward.

Split the top of the vehicle and swing it down to the sides.

Swing the bottom of the vehicle up so that the spare tyres are facing each other.

Swing the crotchplate down and turn the head and pull it forward.

Rotate the legs around at the swivel on the thighs, and pose the toes.

Fold the kibble on the ends of the arms against the forearms. Rotate the panel hanging off the forarm back against the other forearm kibble. Unfold the hands.

Bring the minesweeping claw up over the shoulders, pose, etc.

Now we see where the paint budget on this figure went. We’ve got copper on the shoulders, face, and torso and silver on the body and brown on the arms. He’s got a fair amount of detail in this mode, and they did a passable job of reflecting the CGI model. It’s a bit kibbley, but he really only suffers on the arms. He’s got a fair amount of posability, although his shoulders are a bit lacking (he makes up for it in the elbows), and I wish his pelvis pegged together so he wouldn’t do such an awkward splits if he’s posed oddly. He can bring his clawed tail up over his head to reach about as far as his unstretched arms and operate it as a grabber claw by splitting the forks and sliding the switch, and his arms can be extended to nearly double their regular length. He’s also got the ability to sort-of roll around on the wheels on his feet in robot mode, although the clearance is a little short. It seems like a lot of features to cram into a Deluxe size figure - hey, Hasbro, you could totally work a Voyager Bonecrusher into the Revenge of the Fallen toyline!

Articulation Breakdown

Vehicle/Tail - four swivel joints on flipper/grabber arm

Head - ball joint neck

Arms - dual swivel shoulders, dual swivel elbows, three swivel wrists

Legs - ball joint and swivel hips, swivel knees, swivel ankles, swivel toes (two toes per foot)

Score

Deco: Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars. The vehicle mode is a bit blah, but the amount of painted detail in robot mode makes up for it. There’s tonnes of sculpted detail, and the different metallic colours they used just bring it right out.

Posability: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. He’s got some awkwardness that makes me consider a lower score, but the pull of that magnificent claw just makes me forget all about it.

Transformation: Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. It’s a solid transformation, but I just don’t find it compelling. I don’t often find myself just wanting to transform him for the sake of transforming him. I’d also like it if he could have done something else with those big chunks of vehicle hanging off his forearms.

Bonecrushing: Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. They captured the character (well, what character there is of him - he’s not obviously based in anything that came before, and his “characterisation” in the movie consisted of ripping a bus in half and picking a fight) fairly well, but making him tiny cost him a point.

Vehicle mode: Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. The vehicle is kind of dull - it’s not pretty to look at (and really shouldn’t be), and it rolls around, but it’s a non-combat military vehicle. It’d score lower without that oversized novelty claw, which adds some play value to this mode.

Robot mode: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. It’s a solid robot mode. He’s got the attack tail to play scorpion with, he’s got his extensomatic arms, he’s got his rollerblades… do I need to go on?

Overall, Overall Rating: 4.42 out of 5 stars. He’s a solid movie deluxe, and definitely worth picking up. I’m eager to see if the Jungle Bonecrusher deco appeals to me more, though.

By virtue of sitting at the top of my big bin o’ loose transformers, it’s Ultra Magnus’s turn to get a review. This time, it’s a Titanium series Ultra Magnus (G1 Ultra Magnus will have to wait until another day!)

In his vehicle mode, Ultra Magnus is about what you’d expect from a Titanium figure, which is to say, lots of visible robot parts, an inability to roll smoothly, and generally just not that fun. That’s okay, though, because Titanium figures aren’t really meant to be played with. It’s very similar structurally to the G1 toy, except the trailer doesn’t come off, all of the red parts are gone except the missile tips, and the proportions just seem… off. When did Ultramag lose his red? He seems to be stuck as the white and blue guy these days. There’s not much else to say about this mode, other than it doesn’t fit nicely on the base provided (it’s not intended to) and doesn’t have anywhere suitable for storing his rifle.

Transformation from Truck to Robot

Take the missile launchers off of the front of the trailer. Set them aside. Do not eat them, or allow them to be eaten.

Swing the cab down, so that it’s upside-down and facing the opposite direction.

Swing the arms around (”down”, from the perspective of the truck), and slide the upper arms up through the shoulders. Note that the pegs holding the arms together hold tighter than the ball joints in his shoulders. Peg the shoulders into the cab.

Slide the calf up to the mid-foot point where it locks, and rotate the boot into place.

Attach the missile launchers to the shoulders, rotate the forearms if you don’t want him to be palms up, pose, etc.

Now he’ll fit on the base, and we finally see a bit more red. This toy isn’t exactly the most posable figure in my collection (it’s a Titanium, duh), but it’s still ahead of the G1 figure in that regard, at least. Look, knees that sort of bend, and hips! He isn’t just an upended trailer with arms now! And, despite the lack of anywhere to conceal his gun in vehicle mode, at least it’st his only loose part - no helmet, no random bits of kibble! With the exception of the inexplicable loss of red, we’ve got a fairly faithful G1 homage without the things that make the G1 toy kind of lame. He’s got balance issues (that truck attached to his back can’t possibly be helping with this), and his shoulder joints are held together primarily by luck, but I kind of like him in some strange, never going to play with him sort of way. He’s got plenty of paint apps, his tampographed Autobrands look like bloody stickers with the silver outline, he’s just limited by the constraints of his toyline. If Classics Ultra Magnus had been done like this (without an unofficial add-on)… or the Masterpiece Ultra Magnus… man, that would have been something.

Articulation Breakdown (No Pun Intended)

Head - ball joint neck

Arms - ball joint shoulders, swivel missile launchers, double swivel elbows

Legs - swivel waist, triple swivel hips, swivel knees

Score

Deco: Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. It’s pretty much spot on (I love those logos on his shoulders!), but I’d have liked to see more red about the torso and trailer. He was nearly half red at one point, what happened?

Posability: Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars. He’s shockingly posable, especially for a Titanium, but… I’ve been spoiled by toylines where that’s a priority.

Transformation: Rating: 3 out of 5 stars. Ugh. Those shoulders drive me nuts.

Ultra Magnitude: Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Vehicle Mode: Rating: 3 out of 5 stars. It’s bordering on robo-yoga. There’s a lot of obvious robot parts showing, it doesn’t roll well, it’s just… well… why did this series bother including transformation?

Robot Mode: Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars. It’s actually quite good. It’s nice to see the old armour getting some light, rather than just making him another Albinomus Prime.

Overall, Overall Rating: 3.75 out of 5 stars. If you like the Titanium figures (and/or Ultra Magnus), pick him up. Otherwise… well… go for something else. Maybe Animated Ultra Magnus?

Soundwave: superior. Lack of reappearances in later episodes of the show: inferior.

Yeah, I love Soundwave. I don’t know why (probably the voice), but he was the character that stuck in my head the most from G1. I never had a G1 Soundwave, or any of the homages in later series. I picked up the Classics Soundwave when it was at Toys R Us, which is close enough for me. But this review isn’t about that, it’s about Animated Soundwave! Unlike his previous incarnations, Soundwave turns into a station wagon rather than a tape deck or whatever else he’s been over the years. He’s a pretty solid little car, and rolls well despite the low clearance (although I find that he’s not always rolling on all four wheels). I think it’s fair to break out the dreaded descriptor neon for his paint job, with electric blue detailing against a dark blue body. Actually, maybe argon is a better choice for that, but I don’t think it’ll catch on. He’s got a pattern of electric blue creating a vaguely cassette spool-like design on the doors, a power symbol (IEC 5009, to be precise) on the roof, and in gold on the front bumper he’s got a duplicate of the original Soundwave’s control buttons. All he really needs is an eject button. There is also unpainted detail molded into the back window of two more cassette spools with a bar graph in between.

Transformation from Car to Robot

Swing the rear fender section and doors out and forward, and fold the hands out. Swing the rear wheels down.

Fold the panel on the undercarriage in half, and shift it up (it’s one of those double swivel arm dealies that they seem to use a lot in Animated) so that the top (or rear, depending on which mode you’re referencing) edge is flush with the adjacent piece.

Split the hood/legs, and flip the bumper parts with the gold detailing down.

Swing the legs around, so that the thighs go through the opening where the bumper used to be. Fold the feet up against the calves to cover the other opening.

Do a 180 degree rotation of the waist and of each knee.

Head reveal! The head swings down from behind.

Feel free to peg the guitar in at this point. The tuning knobs peg in to the screw holes on his forearms. I refuse to believe that that’s just luck. Soundwave’s deco is pretty much unchanged in this mode, although he gains some spiffy red shades. He’s got some nice looking electric blue speakers outlined on his shoulders, and his chest is a pretty nice homage to G1 Soundwave, with the familiar window to his cassette bay (with a very subtle molded in bar graph and spools) and control buttons. He’s got a fair amount of posability, perfect for rocking out. This is another solid Animated figure, and a solid G1 homage at the same time. He’s a bit boxy, and the door panels on his arms are bit cumbersome, but overall it’s a good, well integrated robot mode.

Articulation Breakdown

Head - Swivel joint

Arms - Double swivel shoulders (arguably, you could use the swivel under the neck as well), ball and swivel elbows, swivel wrists

Legs - Swivel waist, ball joint hips, ball joint knees, swivel ankles

Score

Deco: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. I like the argon blue effect (it suits the character and altmode), and it’s does the job of homaging the G1 character, although silver in place of gold would have been nice too. I absolutely love the cassette deck details they worked in everywhere.

Posability: Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. He’s got a lot of articulation, but it’s a bit awkward in places.

Transformation: Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars. The folding on his chest really, really bugs me. It’s a clever idea, but it’s too stiff for my liking. The rest of it is nice, though.

Soundwaviness: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Animated Soundwave is rock and roll. This toy is rock and roll. ‘Nuff said.

Vehicle mode: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Good roll, solid deco. What more could you want?

Robot mode: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. I can’t think of a thing I’d do differently on this figure, short of busting apart some earbuds and mounting them in his backpack.

Overall, Overall Rating: 4.58 out of 5 stars. Definitely a highly recommended figure, and hopefully we get more releases of him with different cassettes instruments.

OK, now for another xmas gift, this time from my lovely wife. It’s time to rock out with… Laserbeak?! Yeah, I’m reviewing Laserbeak separately from his packagemate Soundwave. This’ll be a quick one, for a simple toy.

His guitar mode is pretty straightforward. It’s molded entirely in black plastic, with a splash of red. There’s not a whole lot of features here, although you can adjust where the headstock sits on the neck (yes, I had to look those names up, I’m not a musician). There are a couple of pegs on the body that fit into Soundwave’s arms, and he can also be mounted on Soundwave’s roof in vehicle mode, which looks silly.

Transformation from Guitar to Robo-bird

Slide the neck and headstock into the body of the guitar.

Split the body of the guitar, and swing the halves out to reveal the head.

Yeah, Laserbeak here is what we call an accessory, he’s not supposed to be complicated - that’s the bigger toy in the package’s job. We’ve got a good representation of Laserbeak here, which is to say, a black and red bird. He’s kind of flat (which I’m going to pretend is an homage to his G1 namesake), and has little posability. Still, he’s fun for his interaction with Soundwave, and I just like the cassettes for some reason. I want Animated Ravage, Rumble, and Frenzy now.

Articulation Breakdown

You’re kidding, right? The wings, uh have a swivel joint that’s used in transformation. That’s pretty much it.

Score

Deco: Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. A paint app on the eyes would have been nice, as would some sort of tampographed detail, but hey, he’s an accessory. That’s like complaining about the lack of paint apps on Bulkhead’s wrecking ball, or Bumblebee’s thrusters.

Posability: N/A. I’d have liked some head articulation, but oh well.

Transformation: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Simple and to the point.

Laserbeakery: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. It’s got just about everything you’d want from a Laserbeak toy, although I’d love to see some blasters or rockets or something to mount on those pegs (yes, I know they’re tuning knobs, I just don’t care) on the wings.

Altmode: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. It’s a guitar. Soundwave can hold it. I don’t expect any more from it, and it’s awesome.

Robot mode: Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. It’s fun, I like it, whee he flies around yay.

Overall, Overall Rating: 4.6 out of 5 stars. This isn’t a serious review, it’s just for fun, just like this toy. Now go read the Soundwave review, once I stop procrastinating on it and write it.

Hey! It’s one of my very, very few Transformer toys that doesn’t have bi/trilingual packaging. That’s because this one was a lovely xmas gift from my wife’s relatives in the US. It’s interesting that you guys get the character bio on the card, rather than on the instruction sheet down there (I really wish it was on the instruction sheet for all of them, because it’s easier to hang on to that than on to the card or box). But hey, enough about the packaging, it’s time to talk about the Tick Sentinel Prime! (Feel free to hum the Tick’s theme song while you read this. I’m humming it while I type.)

Scale is not Sentinel’s friend here. He’s about the same size as all the wheeled deluxes, which means he’s either really small or everyone else is really big. Still, it’s a nice vehicle design, and at this time of year, a suitable one around here (I have yet to find a way to convince him to clear the road in front of my apartment - Hasbro, this would make a great gimmick for a future toy!). It captures the Animated design quite well, feels fairly solid, and has nearly no robot kibble showing. It’s a fun altmode, with a good roll to it, a plow that can be angled like a real snowplow would, and a mounting point so that you can store his weapons on the roof (which, admittedly, doesn’t really look very good). You can even sort-of kind-of get a V shaped plow by splitting the plow, if that’s your kind of thing.

Transformation from Snowplow to Robot

Lift the roof/window section of the truck (which does not include the windshield, oddly enough) and shift it back, pegging it in place over the bed of the truck. This will expose the thighs and pelvis of the robot, which can be shifted up and out to move the bed and roof of the truck (i.e., the feet and calves) further out.

Free the pegs holding the front doors to the front fenders (I find pulling the doors back slightly does the trick, but I haven’t found a good way to do it without putting an uncomfortable level of force into it), and swing the arms out and around and peg the back wheels into the front wheels.

Stand him up, separate the legs, pose the arms and head and such. Feel free to peg his lance and shield into his enormous hands.

Separate the halves of the plow to their maximum extend (there’s a double swivel joint facilitating this) and swing them over his shoulders to his chest.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Sentinel’s a fairly beefy guy, it seems. He stands pretty easily for such a top-heavy guy (the big feet help, as do the hams on the ends of his arms that can be used for balance. The proportions suit him, and the inspiration is fairly obvious (big guy, blue, antennae, huge chin, hmm…). He’s got a good amount of articulation, and manages to be rather kibble-light (and what there is, is done well). I love the face sculpt, and the painted eyes actually work better than I think proper lightpiping would have (the mold includes it, but the lightpipe was done in black plastic). I never really use that feature anyways. Deco-wise, he’s still mostly blue, with his big orange plow grabbing a lot of attention against the fairly dark blue. It’s a nice contrast, even if he does look like he belongs at a hockey game (hey, how about next time he scans a Zamboni?). There’s a ton of paint applications, and I’m struggling to figure out where one might be missing for show accuracy (I almost suggested the grey circles near his knees, but there’s a screw there, so close enough). Heck, he’s even got tricolour weapons, which is pretty unusual (and welcome!). Translucent plastic for the weapons would be nice (it’s pretty much standard for energy based weapons, it seems), but he’s already got orange, black, grey, and blue plastic, so asking for a fifth plastic colour on a deluxe might be pushing it a bit.

Articulation Breakdown

Head - fairly limited ball joint, slightly mobile antennae

Arms - triple swivel shoulders (one is ratcheted, and is quite stiff), swivel elbows

Legs - ball joint hips, swivel knees

Score

Deco: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. If I had a double of him, he’d have an Oilers logo on him already.

Posability: Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars. There’s a couple of poses I’d like to be able to do that his arms just can’t accomodate, but he’s well articulated (if not necessarily articulate) and still a ton of fun.

Transformation: Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. I like it, it has a lot of interesting quirks to get things where they need to be (like getting all four wheels onto the shoulders), and a minimum of cheating (until they give us flexible plastic to get the chest bending to happen). I’ll give him 5 stars when I can figure out how to get his doors unpegged from his fenders without looking for a flying peg.

Sentinality: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. They captured this perfectly. He looks like a bully, and the sneer on his face is almost perfect (I’d have preferred a smug expression rather than a contemptuous one, but that’s just my preference). The fact that he’s the size of Bumblebee just adds to the hilarity.

Vehicle Mode: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. It’s got what you need in a good vehicle mode - it looks like what it should, and it rolls well. The plow angling action is a super surprise, as well.

Robot Mode: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Tons of detail, accurate to the show and to the character, and it’s a ton of fun. If you have trouble balancing him, try shifting that massive chin around - it might be what’s keeping him off centre.

Overall, Overall Rating: 4.75 out of 5 stars. He’s dynamic, he’s fun, and man am I glad I got this guy. If you like the character, get him. If you don’t like the character, well, something is probably seriously wrong with you. I recommend some sort of sense-of-humour implant.

An interesting idea, at any rate.

What the heck, I’ve opened a few new toys this month, so I might as well start reviewing again. Since he’s closest at hand, Starscream gets the honors.

I opened the box months ago, but never took him off the tray until today (loose toys are harder to store, and I don’t have any shelves). I took him out, after a minute or so of fiddling with him I figured out what the rattling noise in the box was - his head came off. It popped back on easy enough. Some of the flaps move around, and you can lower the landing gear and roll him around the desk. His missile launchers can be swung around to fire forward, but they don’t do his ground clearance any favours. Clearly, he shouldn’t be firing those things on the runway. I was a bit skeptical of the blue and red Starscream colour scheme, but honestly, I think it works well on this mold. Something more show-accurate would be nice, and I’d like to see some of the (inevitable) redecos that are happening for it, but I just can’t picture it looking as good in G1 colours. There’s nowhere on here wanting for another paint application, although the mauve paint behind the cockpit on mine is a bit sloppy. Overall, it’s a solid jet, with less undercarriage kibble than I’d expected, and I love the forward swept wings.

Transformation from Jet to Robot

Stow the landing gear, flip the missile launchers to point rearward.

Swing the legs/thrusters down, which will retract the nosecone using some nifty gears.

Swing the legs the rest of the way around, allowing the top of the fuselage to swing around, which will pop up the head and swing the arms into position. The piece of fuselage that forms his back has a little hook-like peg that will hold it in place.

Separate the black-tipped bit on the lower back, then swing both halves out, and rotate the fins into whatever position looks good for you. The swivel joint here is extremely loose on my figure, and likes to pop off. Split the feet (the joints here are extremely stiff on my figure, and I am too much of a wuss to force them and risk breakage). Strike a devious pose and you’re done!

Another deceptively simple transformation in an Animated voyager. I definitely liked the automorphing features there, but the clicking of the gears when I don’t get it just right makes me nervous. I’d also like it to have a bit more to hold the torso together - it just doesn’t feel solid, almost like it could fall apart into a half transformed wreck at any moment. The robot mode itself is quite nice - he’s tall, and should tower over deluxes, and loom a bit around shorter voyagers like Bulkhead. He’s extremely posable, and can easily assume just about any dynamic pose you want (the big feet make balancing a snap). The lightpiping in his head is a bit silly - they painted over the eyes, so the lightpiping illuminates his mouth. Still, the deco works for him in this mode. There’s nowhere desperately begging for paint (I guess his thighs are a little monochrome, but it really doesn’t bother me). His missile launchers are arm mounted in robot mode, and if you slide them forward, panels pop out of either side of his forearms. It takes a bit more force than I’m really comfortable with, but it didn’t break, so that’s okay. Really, this is a much, much better toy than I was expecting when I brought it home.

Articulation Breakdown

Head - ball joint with very limited range

Arms - Double or triple swivel shoulders (it’s hard to tell - if there’s a third one, it’s got virtually no range of motion), double swivel elbows, swivel and slide on the missile launchers, swivel thumb and fingers (the fingers move as a single piece)

Legs - Double swivel hips, mid-thigh swivel, swivel knee, ball joint ankle, two swivels on the foot

Score

Deco: Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. I like the colour scheme. It’s not show-accurate, it’s not G1-accurate, it just sort of is, but it works for the mold, and works well enough for the character. There’s a generous amount of paint on here, and it’s well placed. I’d probably have given a 4.5/5 if there was less sloppiness to the actual application of the paint - nothing major wrong with it (I’d have returned it otherwise), but I’m just being picky.

Posability: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Easy to stand up, he can scratch his chin (an important feature!), and frankly every bit of posability you could really need.

Transformation: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Good use of automorphing (or whatever they call it this year), good integration of components in both modes, and damn it, I just love the head reveal. I’m glad Hasbro has figured that out.

Badassery: Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. He’s got the smirk, he’s got missiles (and can fire them backwards or forwards), and he’s just plain big for his size class. Loses one point for being Starscream.

Vehicle Mode: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. It’s bang on perfect. It’s a fun little toy plane, the weapons integrate very well into this mode, it’s all you could really want.

Robot Mode: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Again, it’s a good reflection of the character model (except for the deco, and the weapons are mounted in the wrong spot, but I don’t care), and it’s just plain fun. The pop out panels are a nifty gimmick too.

Overall, Overall Rating: 4.67 out of 5 stars. Another highly recommended (like nearly everything Animated), and I expect that’ll be a trend. If you’re into that (and I certainly am), he’ll be worth buying redecos of, too.

I decided to bring another Movie Scout with me this week to work, so this today’s review is going to be Warpath. Shockingly enough, he’s an Autobot, but I guess he’s a libertarian or something.

Out of the box, you’ve got an odd little red and black humvee thing, but with huge tyres that make me want to say “dune buggy”. Overall, it’s a nice colour scheme, and thankfully the Allspark blue is toned down enough that I can tolerate it. He rolls nice, there’s plenty of detailing, and he’s even got a spare tyre. It’s just over half the size of his actual tyres, but who’s counting? He’s got a very solid feel to him, and definitely feels like he’d be plenty fun just as is. This is a good thing, as he’s got no play features in this mode other than rolling around, keyport in the back be darned.

Transformation from Car to Robot

Pull the front section of the spare tyre forward, and rotate the head to face forward. Yes, this is out of order, but it amuses me to see just the head peeking out.

Flip the claws down off the back of the car. Open the doors (the hinge is on the opposite side of the door from what you’d expect, and actually attached to the back door).

Lift the front end of the car slightly to undo the catch just above the windshield, and swing the front end down. Split it, and unfold the feet from behind the front wheels. it’s all posing from here (good luck with the arms).

This figure leaves me… less thrilled than Armorhide did a week ago. He’s still got that lovely deco, and a nice amount of detail, but there are some other problems with this figure. For starters, there’s posability. he’s got the amount of articulation you’d expect at this scale, but his arm joints are oddly placed and angled, so it’s a bit of a pain to get them to do what you want. I keep popping his shoulders out, which isn’t nearly as fun as you’d think. Then there’s his tiny face on his big blocky head. And that tiny torso, with the enormous hole and the featureless thighs beneath it. Maybe I’m being hard on him. In his favour, I submit his weapons: Wolverine-style claws, and a chest mounted missile (the hole in his chest isn’t so bad with the missile in, I admit). Those tiny tampographed Autobot logos on his shoulders are a plus, too.

Articulation Breakdown

Head - swivel joint

Arms - ball joint shoulder (awkward to use much at all), swivel elbows (at an odd angle relative to the both halves of his arms), swivel claws

Legs - swivel waist, ball joint hips, swivel knees, swivel ankles

Score

Deco: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. It’s pretty much ideal. Homage colours, and nice ones at that. Black and red are just classic, and it’s hard to get them wrong. The Allspark blue doesn’t even look bad. Good use of the paint applications available here, too. Some more detail on the thighs would have been nice, though.

Posability: Rating: 2 out of 5 stars. I really, really hate those arms. They’re just too inflexible, but they do manage to hold his claws threateningly, at least. There’s a lot of poses I’d like to do with him that just don’t work, though.

Transformation: Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. Solid. I’d like to move more kibble around, but it gets the job done.

Badassery: Rating: 3 out of 5 stars. He’s got some spillover badass from Wolverine, and he’s got a sufficienty malevolent facial expression, but he can’t do very many “I’m going to tear you a new one” poses, which hurts his score.

Vehicle Mode: Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars. It’s a nice mode, with lots of nice details. Really, it’s a lot of fun.

Robot Mode: Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars. I like the design of the chest, I just wish the proportions were a bit better. The action features work well, and he’d be a lot of fun if they’d checked to make sure he can move his arms normally before finalizing the mold.

Overall, Overall Rating: 3.67 out of 5 stars. Not bad, per se, not great, and really recommended only for completionists and people who care mostly about vehicle modes (or homages).
